Someone must have been looking down on us! We had an emergent situation with my dad and needed to sell his condo quickly at a good price. The McCaffrey’s had a system in place just for this exact situation and it seriously saved us. We had to put a lot of trust in them because of our situation and thankfully, we stumbled on to two very ethical and honest realtors. Cannot thank them enough from the bottom of our collective family hearts!!!

It's hard to even imagine having to deal with our moms home without the McCaffrey's. My brother and I both work full time and having someone we could actually trust to manage almost every aspect of the house was a life saver. They coordinated everything for us! They have “A Guy” for everything! He coordinated the estate sale, the repairs, carpet cleaning, painting, estaging, everything. Can't thank them enough during a really difficult time.

We had a wonderful experience working with The McCaffrey's! We had full confidence and trust in them from day one. They are knowledgeable and so helpful when it comes to truly understanding the nuances of helping seniors who are transitioning from their homes.

There is no way I can describe how incredible The McCaffrey’s are in a short review. Long story short, there was a family emergency and I found myself with the house I did not know what to do with. I was referred to Tom through a friend and what an amazing person he is! These guys went above and beyond the call of duty to help me with my situation. They stayed in communication every step of the way and helped organize a smooth and incredibly easy Home sale. I cannot recommend the McCaffrey's enough! These guys are Real people that understand real situations and work with you to make sure you as a buyer or seller are comfortable. If you find yourself in need of a realtor do yourself a favor and call The McCaffreys you will not find anyone remotely close to how personable, friendly, informative, and just overall good people. Take it from me they care about you and go out of their way to help you. Thank you again for all your help from myself and my family, We appreciate you!!!!!

Don't take our word for it

For most families navigating a senior home transition in Colorado, this is completely uncharted territory. There is no guidebook for managing the emotions, the logistics, the family dynamics, and the real estate process all at the same time. It takes more than an agent. It takes a team who has done this before. The McCaffrey's have helped dozens of Denver families sell a loved one's home during major life transitions including assisted living moves, memory care situations, downsizing, probate, and estate sales. We work with a trusted network of senior living placement advisors, estate sale companies, moving specialists and more so your family does not have to figure it out alone.

We know This Is More Than a Real Estate Transaction

Experience You Can Trust

We know This Is More Than a Real Estate Transaction

If you are in the early stages of figuring this out, here is a practical starting point. These are the things we walk every family through at the beginning.

Ten Things to Do When You Are Starting to Navigate a Senior Home Transition

Have an honest conversation about timeline. Is this urgent or do you have flexibility? The answer shapes everything that comes next.
1.
Ask for help. You do not have to figure this out alone. The families we work with tell us consistently that the biggest relief was simply knowing they had someone in their corner who had done this before.
10.
Do not rush the emotional part. Selling a home a parent has lived in for decades is not just a financial transaction. Give the process the emotional space it deserves.

9.
Understand the financial picture. Proceeds from the home sale often fund the next chapter of care. Know the numbers before you make commitments.

8.
Connect with a senior living placement advisor early. If assisted living or memory care is part of the plan, a placement advisor can help match your loved one to the right community and often at no cost to your family.

7.
Figure out what stays and what goes before the house hits the market. Estate sales, donations, family distributions. This takes more time than most people expect. Start earlier than you think you need to.
6.
Understand what the home is worth today. Not what Zillow says. A real conversation with a local agent who knows your market gives you an accurate number you can actually plan around.
5.
Do not start making repairs or improvements without guidance. Many well-intentioned fixes do not add value at sale. Talk to someone who knows what buyers in this market actually respond to.
4.
Get a realistic picture of the home's condition. Knowing what needs attention before listing saves time, money, and stress down the road.
3.
Understand who the decision-makers are. Is it the senior themselves, adult children, a power of attorney, or a combination? Getting clear on this early prevents friction later.
2.

If you live outside Colorado and are trying to figure out what to do with a parent's home, you are not alone. A large portion of the families we work with are managing this process from another state. A parent has moved into assisted living or memory care, or has passed away, and now there is a home in Colorado that needs to be dealt with and nobody is local enough to manage it.

We built our process specifically for this situation. From the first conversation to the closing table, we handle the coordination on the ground so you do not have to be here to get it done. We assess the home, coordinate the cleanout and estate sale if needed, manage any repairs or updates before listing, and keep you informed throughout with regular updates and honest guidance.

You do not need to fly in. You do not need to manage contractors or vendors from a distance. You need someone in Colorado who has done this before and who you can actually trust. That is what we are here for.

We serve families with homes across the greater Denver metro and Front Range including Parker, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Centennial, Lone Tree, Aurora, Littleton, Greenwood Village, Cherry Creek, Lakewood, Arvada, Golden, Boulder and surrounding communities throughout Douglas, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Denver, Adams, and Broomfield counties.

If you are trying to figure out where to start, reach out. We will give you an honest picture of what the process looks like for your specific situation.

FAQ's

Common Questions From Families Navigating a Senior Home Transition in Colorado

How do we sell a parent's home if we all live out of state?

This is one of the most common situations we work with. You do not need to be in Colorado to get this done. We handle the coordination on the ground, assessing the home, connecting you with the right vendors, managing repairs and cleanout, and keeping you informed every step of the way. Most of our out-of-state families tell us they never felt out of the loop. We become your eyes and ears on the property so you can manage this from wherever you are.

How quickly does the home need to sell if our parent is moving to assisted living?

It depends on the financial situation. If the proceeds from the home sale are funding the cost of assisted living or memory care, timing becomes critical. We help families understand the real timeline, how long it typically takes to prepare a home for market, what the current selling conditions look like in your specific area of Colorado, and how to plan around the move. The earlier you bring us in, the more options you have.

The home needs work before it can sell. How do we handle that from a distance?

We have a trusted network of contractors, estate sale companies, cleanout crews, painters, and stagers we work with regularly. We coordinate everything. You do not need to manage vendors from out of state or fly in to oversee repairs. We assess what needs to be done, give you honest guidance on what is worth doing versus what is not, and manage the process on your behalf.

What if siblings disagree about what to do with the house?

This comes up more than most people expect. Our job is not to take sides. It is to give every decision-maker the same honest information so the family can move forward together. We have worked with families navigating complex dynamics, probate situations, and multiple stakeholders. Clear communication and a defined process go a long way toward keeping everyone aligned.

How is selling a parent's home different from a typical home sale?

In almost every way that matters. The emotional weight is different. The logistics are more complex. The decision makers are often not the ones living in the home. There are frequently additional steps like estate sales, donations, cleanouts, and coordination with senior living facilities that a standard home sale never involves. This is why working with agents who specifically focus on senior transitions makes a difference. We have built our process around exactly this type of sale.

Do you work with families dealing with probate or inherited properties?

Yes. We regularly work with families selling a home through probate or managing an inherited property after a parent has passed. These sales have additional legal and logistical layers and we are experienced in navigating them. We also work closely with estate attorneys and can connect you with the right resources if you need them.

What does it cost to work with The McCaffreys?

Our commission is paid at closing from the proceeds of the sale. There is no upfront cost to you. In most cases the preparation work we coordinate, including vendor referrals and project management, comes at no additional charge. We are compensated when the home sells, which means our interests are fully aligned with yours.
